Employee Health Benefits

PML has been helping employers with employee health benefits since 1985.

PML offers a comprehensive employee benefits package as part of the services we provide. These benefits include:

* Health Care - the choice between three medical plans, two HSA compatible high deductible plans and three PPOs.

* Prescription Drug Coverage - Varies with medical plan chosen.

* Medical Expense / Hospital Indemnity Reimbursement Plan - limited coverage through Pan American Life Insurance.

* Dental - comprehensive coverage through MetLife.

* Vision - a VSP vision plan with coverage for exams and materials.

* Basic Life Insurance and Short Term Disability - American United Life (AUL) coverage.

The Rising Cost Of Health Care

One of the most difficult challenges employers face today is managing employee health care costs. Employee health care costs are increasing at a double digit pace due to many factors, including:

* Advances in medical technology that result in very expensive procedures and drugs

* Rapidly escalating prescription costs. The United States has the highest costs in the world by far.

* Lack of effective consumer driven checks on spending for health care.

Unfortunately, much of the cost of United States health care is being assumed by employers. Because of this, employers must make difficult financial decisions in order to continue providing high quality employee health care benefits.

In trying to accomplish this balancing act between company and employee costs, it is helpful to step back and to lay out the criteria or guidelines that we intend to follow in designing our employee health care benefits. First, we as individuals, need to recognize we each have a significant responsibility for our health. In addition, we each also have a significant responsibility for spending health care dollars wisely. Therefore, in the design of our employee health care programs, we will place more emphasis on communicating with employees on how their lifestyle directly affects the cost of their health care plans. We will provide employee tools to make informed choices on health care services. All of us need to become better consumers of our limited health care resources.

To help with this objective, this year we will be offering a Consumer Driven Health Plan (CDHP) as one of our benefit offerings. These are relatively new health care plans that contain a number of tax and other advantages to participants. In addition, they hold much promise to curtail the rapid escalation in health care costs. Many employers are moving to these types of plans, and feedback has generally been quite positive.

These plans focus on getting the participant more involved in managing their own health care. With employee incentives for dealing with chronic health conditions, lowering utilization, and encouraging preventive care, CDHPs hope to bring more competition to the health care industry by motivating you to purchase health care the same way you purchase other goods and services.

PML will continue to have a competitive employee benefits offering, including health care. However, we also must continue to balance the realities of keeping the business financially healthy with the health care needs of our employees. This in not an easy balancing act!

On this site, you will be seeing a lot more communications on health care. As you review this site, please keep in mind that, in the final analysis, our health care expenses will reflect the job we do as an employee group in keeping healthy. Being wise health care consumers and leading healthy lifestyles play a large part in this journey. Prevention is the key to staying healthy! We're confident that this new approach, with each of you as our partners, will not only give you more control of your health care, but also more satisfaction with your benefits. As we move forward, we'd like you to review the services you receive through your health care benefits with the same consideration you apply to many other important things in your life.

We encourage all employees to make good life style choices and to keep in mind that your life style choices do have a significant effect on you, your family, and our company.
